Poem: “Miracle"

Miracle

Each part of me feels like scattered ashes,

But the rhythms and echoes of the relentless siege

Prevent it from perishing

And hold me, trembling, at the brink of being

The cruelty and bitterness of the siege

Make me cling harder, insist louder

Sharpen my grip and steel my will It does not undo me

It forges me

From my own ashes, I gather what remains

And remake myself, again and again I return

Stronger, wiser, softer still

Fierce with tenderness,

Human to the core

I am the phoenix I do not perish;

I become

I am a miracle.
